Tom Steyer is an investment banking professional, and since 1986 has been engaged at a senior level in two San Francisco-based firms: Hellman & Friedman, LLC, and Farallon Capital Management, LLC. He is a partner and member of the Executive Committee of the Hellman firm, a $3.3 billion private equity firm. Mr. Steyer is the founder and a senior managing member of Farallon, where he is responsible for managing a $20 billion fund with a wide-range of investments worldwide. Farallon Capital Management manages equity capital for institutions and high net worth individuals. The firm's institutional investors are primarily college endowments and foundations. The company is a registered investment advisor with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission.

From 1983 through 1985, Mr. Steyer worked at Goldman, Sachs & Company as an associate in the risk arbitrage department. During 1983, he worked for the Mondale Presidential Campaign. Mr. Steyer began his professional career at Morgan Stanley & Company as a financial analyst in the mergers and acquisitions practice during the period from 1979 through 1981.

Mr. Steyer graduated summa cum laude from Yale University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science in 1979. He graduated from Stanford with a Masters in Business Administration in 1983.
